Frequently Asked Questions

Can I have multiple Teams?

Yes! If you find yourself with more than 10 interested students, you may want to consider splitting into two teams. Only so many students can comfortably work on the same VEX robot at the same time! A second team will mean additional registration costs but for many events, as well as the initial registration with Vex, the registration fees are reduced for additional teams from the same organization or school.

How do I register my team(s)?

Visit the VEX Robotics Competition registration page on robotevents.com. Once you have created a user account, you can register your team for the current season by clicking the "Register a Team" button. After you have registered your team with VEX and paid the $75 registration fee you can register your team for VRC events. Note that if you have multiple teams at your school or organization, the additional teams only pay a $25 registration fee to register as official VRC teams.

What do I get for registering?

When you register with VEX, you get your official VEX Robotics Competition (VRC) team number, as well as the Team Welcome Kit, which includes:
(4) Official Team ID Plates
(2) Blue and (2) Red Robot ID Flags
(1) Hexbug
(1) Set of sample game elements
Your official team number allows you to register for VRC events. Without registering, your team would not be eligible to compete at many of the larger events, or qualify for the World Championships

Do we need to upgrade to VEXnet?

Yes.

If you have already purchased a Classroom Lab Kit you could purchase either a VEXnet Upgrade Bundle (upgrade the controller and transmitter in the Classroom Lab Kit) or a VEXnet System Bundle (replace the controller and transmitter in the Classroom Lab Kit).

If you have not yet purchased a Classroom Lab Kit, you could purchase the Classroom Lab Kit with Cortex

Can my team compete in multiple events?

Yes, many teams compete in multiple events so they can improve both their robot's design and team skills throughout the season. These improvements, as well as the experience of actually participating in a competition event also helps the team to be better prepared for the larger state, regional, and world championship events. As most events charge a registration fee, the team budget is usually the limiting factor when it comes to determining how many events to compete in.
